Abstract

We apply dynamic Bayesian networks to 18 months of cross-platform social media data (Twitter, Reddit, Facebook) to model the causal structure of political polarization. We find that cross-platform influence flows predominantly from Twitter to Reddit, with Facebook acting as a sink rather than a source.

A Author Cover letter
This study provides the first cross-platform causal analysis of polarization dynamics at scale.
A Author Withdrawal request
Dear Editors, I am writing to withdraw my submission. After the paper was submitted, a collaborator identified a data-collection artefact in the Facebook dataset that substantially affects the cross-platform influence estimates. We need to re-collect the affected data and revise the analysis before the work is ready for peer review. I apologise for any inconvenience this causes. Sincerely, Priya Singh
